Halloween is always a fun night, not just for kids who get to go trick-or-treating, but also for adults who have fun dressing up their little monsters and handing out candy. Sadly however, each year this spooky night results in a number of injuries and even accidental deaths that could very easily have been avoided. According to recent statistics pedestrian accidents involving young children on Halloween rate up to 4.5 times higher than other nights. Although this is startling, there are many ways to keep children safe on Halloween.
Planning ahead and preparing kids for Halloween is a great way to help them understand and be aware of any potential dangerous situations that they might encounter. Instead of letting them head out alone at night, accompany them along their route. As an alternative, ask a teen sibling, babysitter or friend, or adult family members to go with them. Another option is to organize a small group of kids and have one of the parents take them around the block. The resources below offer plenty of safety advice for adults as well as kid-friendly resources to help them practice their knowledge of Halloween safety.
