The Halloween Party Playlist

By October 1, 2015 Lists No Comments

Halloween and school dances seem to go hand-in-hand.  We see Halloween dances on TV.  We see Halloween dances in movies.  We’ve even experienced them first hand.  And because we’re all so well-versed on the Halloween dance subject, there’s definitely an ultimate playlist that will get you dancing. So, let’s take a trip down memory lane and take a listen to these 13 Halloween classics that will get you in the spirit!

1. Thriller

No Halloween party is complete without playing this classic by the late and great King of Pop, Michael Jackson.  Bonus points if you’ve memorized the dance and can whip it out any time this song plays…

2. Monster Mash

Is anyone else flashing back to awkwardly shuffle-dancing to this classic song in a sparsely decorated gymnasium or is it just me?  It’s withstood the test of time for a reason.

3. Ghostbusters

Here’s to hoping that they reprise this Ghostbusters theme song for the reboot.  Or reboots, for that matter.  Can you answer the question “Who ya gonna call?” any other way besides screaming “GHOSTBUSTERS”?

4. I Put A Spell On You

I know this isn’t the original, however how can we have a Halloween party playlist without including this Hocus Pocus track?  Maybe Bette Midler did put a spell on us and that’s why we’re all still obsessed with this movie but either way, it’s another awesome classic.

5. Witch Doctor

Another oldie but goodie.  Yes, when you hear this song you may think of The Chipmunks but does that mean you’re not going to dance?  Bonus points if someone dresses as a witch doctor because then you at least have a reason to put this song on repeat at the party…

6. The Halloween Theme Song

You might want to play this one sparingly.  Even if you haven’t watched the classic horror film (and all of it’s sequels) this simple tune will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.

7. The Exorcist Theme Song

See above.  If you don’t have goosebumps and your palms aren’t sweating, you might need to arrange your own exorcism.

8. Graveyard Cha Cha

You may not be throwing a Halloween Doo Wop however there are probably a few poodle skirt-wearing, leather jacketed Greasers who will get down to this jam from 1959.

9. This Is Halloween

If you’re celebrating Halloween it’d be a faux pas to not include this song from Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas.  This is Halloween after all…

10. Highway to Hell

Although not inherently a Halloween song, this AC/DC classic references Satan’s hangout and there are sure to be more than a handful of devils running around this year (every year, really).  And plus, we needed to up the classic rock quota on this list.

11. Hungry Like The Wolf

Again, here’s a classic rock song that doesn’t really have anything to do with Halloween but there are enough people dressing up as werewolves to make this a thing.  I smell a choreographed werewolf dance number in our future…

12. The Addams Family Theme Song

This one might be cliche and a bit campy, but do any people embody the spirit of Halloween better than the Addamses?  I dare you to play this at your party to see how many of your guests snap along!

13. Time Warp

Since we took a trip down memory lane to compile this list of songs, including the classic number from Rocky Horror Picture Show just seemed like a fitting way to end.  Whether you’re partying in 2015 or like you’re in 1999, everyone will get down and sing along to this upbeat tune!

We’ve added all of these songs to our Halloween Party Playlist for you to use at your very on monster bash!
