After another monster opening weekend at the box office, it looks like the Transformers movie franchise isn’t slowing down any time soon. In spite of a lukewarm reception from critics, “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” blew away its competition over the July 4 holiday weekend, earning nearly $100 million.
Even the unceremonious departure of Megan Fox, the leading lady in the first two movies, did not seem to matter to audiences who flocked in droves to catch the first Transformers movie filmed in 3-D. It’s probably safe to say as long as director Michael Bay continues to thrill audiences with special effects and explosions, Transformers movies will continue to be a draw regardless of the plot and who’s starring.
A big part of the fun of Transformers for adults is also seeing the cartoon characters from their childhood beefed up on the big screen. Even better, they get to share a piece of their youth with their children, who are thrilled by the same transforming robots that captivated their parents’ attention as kids. The movies also add the interactive element, as parents can pass down their old action figures, or marvel at the new developments in toys from the franchise, including video games.
Adding to the fun is the fact that Transformers characters make for great costumes when it comes time to dress up. Whether you’re looking for an Optimus Prime costume that looks like it came straight off the movie set or a basic Bumblebee costume for your child for Halloween, there are plenty of options to choose from.
