70's Womens Costumes
Any cool cat knows that mood rings, beanbag chairs, and disco balls were all the rage in the 70's. However, when it came to fashion no woman had a style quite like Charlie's Angels. They defined the style of the time - bell bottom polyester pants, clingy dresses, slinky jumpsuits and oh, the hair! Get the look with women's 70s costumes this Halloween.
The beginning of this decade saw the continued popularity of hippies and a push for feminism. A time of free spirits who passionately advocated in favor of love, this was an era that valued bright colors, striking patterns, and peasant-style tops and dresses. Slowly, however, styles began to change. Ladies exchanged their long, straight hair for a shorter, feathered cut like Farrah Fawcett's. Disco music shot to the top of the charts thanks to hits by the Bee Gees, Donna Summer, KC & The Sunshine Band, and many others. Ladies caught a case of Saturday Night Fever, and donned dazzling sequined halter tops and either bell-bottom pants or mini skirts, while men wore stylish three-piece suits. You thought that the 1970's was a time exclusively known for its association with disco music? Dream on! In addition to the rise in popularity of soft rock, rib, and early metal; pop culture as a whole was growing rapidly. This was the decade that saw the first Star Wars, The Godfather, and Rocky films. Pay TV was introduced for the first time thanks to HBO, and the earliest arcade games, like Pong, were popping up. If they only knew back then what the future would hold!
