The days of receiving a personal invitation from the king to attend his masquerade ball might be over, but the days of throwing your own can begin any time. Do it by asking your friends to dress up in costume, and make sure to order masquerade masks for your guests to wear. These accessories will create an air of mystery and elegance in your space and are especially fun to hand out at Sweet 16 and Halloween events.

Masquerade Masks

Beginning in the 13th century, Venetians began celebrating Carnival which is an elaborate festivity that happens just before Lent. By the 15th century, these festivities began to include dressing up in masquerade. Ornate styles were used for this occasion, and each style was known by a different name. For instance, the bauta was a full facemask that began as a completely white design but, over the years, became gold.
